A Deeper Look At Vaping 0

Realistically, we could write volumes of books about all of the ins and outs of all things vaping. We have a huge passion for vaping and electronic cigarettes here at Sunshine Vape, and we want all of our customers to know that. After all, who would want to shop at an online vape store that doesn’t have any passion or knowledge about what they’re selling? We’re proud to help longtime cigarette smokers transition to vaping, a significantly healthier alternative that still delivers the same nicotine buzz.

Sunshine Vape Is Proud To Support The Vape Community

As a follow-up to our previous blog post about the high-level basics of vaping and e-juice, we’re going to continue taking a deeper look and some of the more intricate details of the vaping experience. As always, feel free to shop our online vape shop for awesome deals on discount vape juice, vape battery mods, mod battery chargers, vape coils for sale, and many other vaping products. And now, let us continue to dive deeper into the world of vaping!

Vapes, Or Electronic Cigarettes?

The term ‘vape’ and ‘electronic cigarette’ or ‘e-cig’ are often used interchangeably, but there are some distinctions to be made. When a user has an expensive setup involving a high-wattage box mod (more on that later) and a sub-ohm tank or dripping setup (again, more on that later!), this wouldn’t really be called an e-cig.

Rather, electronic cigarettes can be further classified as ‘cig-a-likes’ because they imitate a similar look and feel of an actual cigarette. They’re usually the size of a pen and even resemble the same coloration as a traditional cigarette, and yet, they still produce vapor. E-cigarettes usually come as a complete yet basic starter kit containing items like batteries, refillable or pre-filled cartridges, and a charger. E-cigs are very convenient and affordable, and they’re also a perfect go-to solution for those new to vaping. However, if you’re seeking a large volume of vapor and the best possible flavor from your e-juice, you’ll want a more expensive, complicated setup. Which leads us to…

Vape Mods

In the world of vaping, vape mods are the real deal. Ideal for those with a decent amount of vaping experience, mods can range from a simple $25 battery to a $300-400+ battery. When you hear the term ‘mod,’ it generally refers to the battery that’s supplying the power to the atomizer to cause the vape juice to vaporize. Mods typically come in two broad categories: power-regulated and mechanical, though mechanical mods don’t seem to be nearly as popular these days as they used to be several years ago.

Power-Regulated Mods

Also known as variable wattage or voltage mods, regulated mods consist of an electronic chip between the battery and the coil. This can be used to adjust the voltage or the power to the coil itself while vaping by using buttons or a dial. More upscale regulated mods even allow the user direct control of coil temperature, with voltage regulation being managed by the chip.

Typically, most regulated vape mods will contain an integrated status screen that displays information like voltage, power, and ohms resistance. Regulated mods are also considered to be safer than mechanical mods, as they contain safety features for fire prevention, battery protection and won’t allow the user to fry out the battery inside of the case.

Mechanical Mods

Commonly known by longtime vapers as ‘mech mods,’ mechanical batteries can be classified as unregulated mods. A pure mechanical mod does not contain an electronic chip between the battery and the atomizer for voltage regulation. Instead, a mech mod always uses the full voltage output of the battery.

Indeed, by the strictest definition of mechanical mods, they do not contain any wires or solder at all, and instead, make direct contact between the battery and the atomizer via a pressure switch. This eliminates the potential for electrical loss to a chip or wires, but it also eliminates the safety features that a chip would otherwise have. Therefore, a mechanical mod relies entirely on you as the user to ensure safe operation. Mechanical mods are strongly advised against for vaping beginners or novices.

What Is Sub-Ohm Vaping?

Ah, sub-ohm vaping. If you’re not familiar with Ohm’s Law, you will be after you get into vaping (trust us). Simply explained, Ohm’s Law refers to the potential difference, or voltage, across an ideal conductor that is proportional to the current that runs through it. In the context of vaping, sub-ohm vaping concerns vaping on a device whose atomizer coils have a resistance of less than one ohm. The main reason that some advanced or experienced vapers stick to purely sub-ohm vaping is to increase the power output of fixed voltage devices like mechanical mods and regulated devices in order to create a greater volume of vapor and more flavor for the user.

Sub-Ohm Tanks

A ‘tank’ is a cylindrical unit that contains the atomizer and the wick, which absorbs the e-juice and connects with the battery to then vaporize the e-juice. Many tanks these days come with pre-built sub-ohm coils that the user simply screws into the base of the tank. Experienced vapers even purchase Kanthal wire and other wicking and wire materials to build their own sub-ohm coils and push as much power as they can with their unregulated mechanical mods, but we don’t want to overwhelm you as our reader! That’s another post for another time.
